    Former members of the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins and players from around Akwesasne joined forces on Saturday, Dec. 6 to play a benefit game for Akwesasne Minor Hockey, which drew about 500 people to Anowarakowa Arena. The Boston squad included such greats as Ray Bourque, who to this day holds the NHL record for goals and assists scored by a defenseman.     Community members are encouraged to attend the trial in support of Akwesasne’s aboriginal and mobility rights, and to provide moral support to Alicia Shenandoah and April Elaine Thompson, the two women who the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is defending in court. The results of this case will impact the Akwesasne community in what we hope will be a positive manner.     On Saturday night, the American Legion was the place for a jigging contest to benefit the Senior Center and Iakhihsohtha. Don Woodcock, champion fiddler, provided the jigging music along with the River Mohawks, Bobby Herne and Terry Terrance. Despite the numerous other events going on, the Legion was packed.     They were declared the "Fastest Turkeys" for the 2014 Turkey Trot. The Turkey Trot was started a few years ago to build a culture of family in the St. Regis Mohawk Elementary School and to increase physical activity. It has become a tradition each year; on the day before Thanksgiving, everyone runs around the school to see who is the fastest turkey.
