Dear Editor, December 7, 2010 LET’S CHANGE OUR STRAGETY. …LET’S ‘FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE’ One of the techniques used by the brave firefighters out West, in dealing with the wildfires in the Midwest and the State of California, is the strategy of ‘fighting fire with fire’. Once they determine the path of the wildfire, they jump further ahead and intentionally burn a large swath with a controlled burn. The idea is that when the wildfire reaches this burned out area, it will ‘fizzle out’. Hence,’ fighting fire with fire’. I’m not writing that this s...

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, the United States government, through the Army Corps of Engineers and over the objections of the Seneca Nation, forced the removal of Seneca families, homes, and communities off their treaty-protected lands, and built Kinzua Dam on the Allegheny River in western Pennsylvania. The federal government granted private utility companies the license to develop and produce electricity from the ironically named “Seneca” Pumped Storage Project at Kinzua Dam. The Dam...

Stress is basically anything that threatens your life in the short term or the long term. For example, bad sleep habits are stressful on your body but so is eating non organic p...

Characterized by abnormally high blood sugar and insulin levels, Type II diabetes greatly increases the risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, blindness, nerve disorders, kidney disease, cancer and impotence. It is, in the minds of many scientists, an example of accelerated aging. Type II diabet...
