The Massena girls varsity hockey and boys basketball seasons are officially underway. The hockey team narrowly dropped their opener to Oswego and the basketball squad squeezed past Northeast Clinton by just a single point for their first win. On Nov. 21, the girls hockey team went into the third period leading 3-1 but were unable to fend back a three-goal barrage. Two of the three Akwesasne teams got the W last weekend in Indoor Soccer league play at the Benson Center in Cornwall. The Stars won their game against Elevation Fitness by a score of 4-1. Calandra Thompson led with three markers while Jenna Thompson kicked in one. The Lady Devils were upended by Emard Bros. 7-1 with Jade Benedict-Bough scoring the lone marker. The Lanark County Condors girls visited the Anowarako:wa Arena last week and despite having only nine skaters they put up a big effort against the Akwesasne Wild. But the hosts pushed their unbeaten streak to seven games with a 5-1 win in National Capital Women's Hockey League play. It was a heartbreaking tie last weekend at the Benson Center. The Akwesasne Novice team were leading 6-5 over the Cornwall Colts with a little over two minutes remaining. The Cornwall team caught a break on a loose puck setting up a 2 on nothing breakaway on Wolves goalie Max Garrow. The Akwesasne Peewee B Wolves hosted the Cornwall Colts last weekend and were seconds away from sending them home with a win. They settled for a tie. It was a bad day for two of Malone's Peewee teams. Last weekend at Salmon River the Peewee Green team from Malone were blanked 12-0 by the NF Shamrocks. Ryan Bouchey lead with four goals, Fire Swamp and Evan Collette each scored two goals and Swamp added five assists. With one each in the win were Brayden Bethel, Caiden Cartier and Luke Miller.
