The Akwesasne Coalition for Community Empowerment threw the 3rd annual Me and My Guy Dance on Saturday, April 25, 2015, and the theme was a Garden Tea Party. About 70 people signed up for the dance and the St. Regis Mohawk School was beautifully decorated. On Saturday morning, the Seniors Center parking lot was packed for the annual Seed and Tree Giveaway hosted by the Akwesasne Task Force on the Environment (ATFE). Under the pavilion at Generations Park they had several varieties of seedlings including White Cedar, Jack Pine, White Pine, White Spruce, Balsam Fir, White Birch, Black Cherry and Sugar Maple. On Wednesday, April 22, 2015, the Office of the Aging, a.k.a. the Seniors Center in Hogansburg, hosted a Baby Boomers Blowout. It was essentially an open house, with a 60's theme, to show everyone all the things the Senior Center has to offer. A former St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police officer is charged with selling marijuana on the St. Lawrence University campus in Canton. Canton police charged Eli Carrier of 7 Dies St., Canton, with fourth-degree criminal sale and possession of marijuana on April 23. He was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. AKWESASNE – Mrs. Cecilia "Smitty" Ransom, 84, of 1058 State Route 37, passed away Sunday evening, April 26, 2015 at the University of Vermont Medical Center, Burlington after a brief illness. Smitty was born January 12, 1931 in Akwesasne, the daughter of the late Mitchell and Margaret Casey Smith. After the death of her mother during childbirth, she was raised by Tom and Christy Thomas. On Friday, April 24, 2015, the St. Regis Mohawk School Chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) current members and inductees participated in a group service project.
