    On Friday, Nov. 14, between 7 and 8 p.m. a red mini-van driven by a young Quebec man was seen traveling at high rates of speed in Akwesasne and Cornwall. Authorities say that 21-year-old Dany Gionet of St. Jean sur Richelieu had been flagged by RCMP surveillance officers as a possible contraband cigarette smuggler and they made attempts to pull him over.     Following more than two months of intense investigation, authorities announced Wednesday afternoon that they believe to have solved the mysterious murder of Thomas Hathaway on Sept. 3, 2008.     The Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Science Fair – an annual tradition – was held last Thursday at the Snye Recreation Centre. Students in grades sixth and higher from all area schools were invited to participate.     Federal authorities have indicted a seventh individual in the robbery and death of Daniel Simonds in Stockholm in May of this year. Bryan A. “Wildcat” Herne, 31 of 73 Raquette Point Road was arrested by St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police last Thursday without incident. They also seized a black Pontiac. Herne was charged with conspiring to engage in a Hobbs Act robbery – a charge that involves cross-border drug sales.     Two individuals face federal drug charges after authorities allegedly seized $1.74 million in Ecstasy pills from one of two vehicles involved. Benoit Goyette, 39 of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec is said to have rented a vehicle and crossed into the United States at the Fort Covington Port of Entry on Nov. 11.
