    (November 13, 2016) At approximately 2:30 PM, on Saturday, November 12, 2016, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police were dispatched to attend a residence located in Akwesasne, Quebec where the body of a 26 year old female was found deceased. Officers attended and secured the residence. The Sûreté du Québec Forensic Identification Unit was requested to attend and process the scene.     Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $2 million in federal funding for the Akwesasne Tourism Working Group. The working group will receive $400,000 for the first year, and a total of $2 million over the next five years.     In early November several Akwesasronon traveled to the Hudson Valley to take part in a harvest grown between several communities: the Hudson Valley Farm Hub, the newly created Native American Seed Sanctuary and Akwesasronon programs.     Last weekend Tsi Snaihne Recreation held their annual Christmas Enchantment event. This four day event began on November 10th with a meal for the Elders in the community. They were served corn soup and biscuits, and afterward they were able to preview the decorative trees. Five pickles were hidden amongst the tree displays and if found they were given a chance to win $10 in free tickets. The meal was sponsored by Indian Time Newspaper.     AKWESASNE - The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service seized 50lbs of packaged marihuana this past Wednesday (November 9, 2016) in the early morning hours. The seizure, which occurred shortly after 1 o’clock AM, was the result of an investigation into suspicious activities observed by the Joint Investigation Team.   • Akwesasne Woman Faces Five Years For Alien Smuggling

    Audrey Rae Bush of Akwesasne could spend up to five years in federal prison after admitting in federal court that she transported two Chinese citizens who were illegally in the United States. She pleaded guilty Nov. 9 in federal court in Syracuse to two counts of transporting illegal aliens. When sentenced on March 16, she could also be fined $250,000 and will also forfeit $1,000 she received for transporting the aliens.
