A 25-year-old Akwesasne man has been convicted of sexual assault following an incident nearly two years ago. On Dec. 8, 2006, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service responded to a call of a female who had been sexually assaulted on Cornwall Island. During the course of their investigation, two males were arrested. On Oct. 24, 2008, Christopher Abraham Jocko of Cornwall Island was found guilty of the following charges: Utter a Threat, Assault, Sexual Assault, Forcible Confinement, and Fail to Comply, all contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada....
The entire student population at the St. Regis Mohawk School has been relocated to the Salmon River Central School campus in Fort Covington. The move was made following massive flooding and damages that occurred at the SRMS last week as a result of a snowstorm and power outage. The grade 3 and 4 Skahwatsi:ra students at Tsi Snaihne School took part in the “Plant the Promise Project” last week. In their science class the students began learning about planting and growing tulips. They spent time making a plan and a design to contribute to improving the grounds at Tsi Snaihne School. On October 21st, in the early morning hours, a 2003 Princecraft deck boat with a 175 HP Mercury Optimax was stolen from Lewis Marine shop in Fort Covington. This deck boat belonged to Owen and Alison Benedict. It was in the shop undergoing repairs when someone hooked onto the boat, motor and trailer and drove away with it. More than 200 children and parents dressed up and attended the St. Regis Recreation’s annual Halloween party last Thursday. Along with a traditional costume contest for all ages, the party also featured a pumpkin-carving contest, a Halloween treats bake-off and a prize for the best house decorated in St. Regis. [Cornwall]: Ontario Power Generation wishes to advise hunters, anglers and recreational boaters on the St. Lawrence River that ice booms will be installed in narrow stretches of the river between Cardinal and Prescott. Installation will commence on November 10 and continue intermittently until the end of the year.
