Alcoa will idle the Massena West smelter and will not modernize its closed east plant. This is in spite of a deal with the state to maintain 750 jobs at the west plant and modernize the pot line at the east plant in exchange for megawatts of discount-rate electricity from the New York Power Authority. Domestic animals in the area of Cook Road, Phillips Road and Cree Road in Akwesasne have been attacked by roaming dogs. On the Cree residence alone, they have had to deal with several of their farm animals and pets being attached and some so viciously the farm animal had to be euthanized. Akwesasne, NY (November 2, 2015)---Heart to Heart Fitness Center recently donated the proceeds of their second annual 9k Walk and Run Race to the Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club. 148 participants came out to walk and run on September 26th. On Friday October 30th, 2015 the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Criminal Enforcement Unit arrested two Akwesasne men after executing a take-down of an attempted drug- smuggling operation on Cornwall Island.
