A case of a miracle attributed to Kateri Tekawitha, known as the “Lily of the Mohawks,” has been sent to the Vatican’s Congregation for the Causes of Saints. If the Vatican declares the miracle credible, Kateri would become the first Native American saint, joining the Roman Catholic Church’s holy honor roll of saints. Monsignor Paul Lenz, former director of the Bureau of Catholic Indian Missions, confirmed a miracle case file was sent, last month, to the Vatican’s Secretariat for Beatifications and Canonizations. • P.M.S. : What Your Doctor May Not Have Told You

    Oct 29, 2009

A common concern brought to my office is the often troubling symptoms of ‘Premenstrual Syndrome’ or P.M.S. This condition can be quite debilitating, but women often tell me that they have been labeled as lazy, hypochondriacs, poor workers or even emotionally disturbed by friends, family, employers and, yes, even by their doctors. There is a reason for this and that is that most people and many doctors are not well educated as to the signs, symptoms, treatments and actual impact this very real condition can have for its victims. This art...

  • The Bully, the Bullied and the Bystander

    Oct 29, 2009

Where there are children, there are bullies. In our neighborhood, in our school and maybe in our homes. Bullies use fear to get away with unacceptable behavior. Their victims (the bullied) fear continued abuse if they tell. Bystanders fear becoming the next victim. The “bullied” suffer in silence while repeatedly getting harassed. Bystanders stay silent to avoid the unwanted attention. It’s a vicious unending cycle. Bullies come in all sizes, ages and genders. The tactics they use vary .Some get physical. Others play on emotions. Boys often...

  • Origin of the Clans

    Oct 29, 2009

Since the beginning of Creation, the Onkwehon:we have had a family clan system. It was set up so people could learn how to comfort and help one another in times of need. It also helped to settle matters in the village. The clan system began long ago when an old man told the people to follow him and he would show them how to organize, comfort, and help one another. He took the people down to a river where they saw a huge tree with a wild grapevine growing from the branches. The grapevine stretched across the river. The old man led the way, and...

  • Just me & you

    An Anonymous Mother|Oct 29, 2009

Big Brother has been a pretty awesome older brother. He deals with being annoyed by Godzilla wrecking his cars. Having to “wait a minute” countless times while I rush to change a diaper or feed Little Brother. He turns the TV up when Little Brother cries or is in a shrieking mood. He doesn’t even get mad when Little Brother gets hold of his hair or scratches his face. He never complains unless the baby really got him good, you know like in the eye. I don’t get to have much alone time with my first baby. In the morning I usually feed the baby wh...
