Imagine an excruciating headache that manifests as a spectacular light show, pulsating and exploding in sync with the pain in your skull, or an incessant stabbing coupled with nausea and narrowed vision. These are classic symptoms of a migraine headache, debilitating by any description—a pain so vivid it can only be understood by fellow sufferers. Pharmaceuticals such as aspirin, Midrin, Migranal or oral triptans (including Imitrex and Zomig) can work wonders in alleviating the pain, but for some these remedies carry unwanted side effects, m...
Submitted by Wholistic Health and Wellness Several deaths in a short period of time can lead to bereavement overload or cumulative grief. It occurs when there is no time or opportunity for an individual or community to completely or adequately grieve for each person who has died. Grief is a natural, normal response to loss. Although grief is considered a natural reaction it can at times feel enormously painful, overwhelming and exhausting. More than 20 families and nearly a hundred people turned out for the St. Regis Recreation’s 3rd Annual Family Pumpkin Carving Competition Monday evening. Being home with your kids really gives you the chance to get to know them. You could be a stay-at-home mom or a working mom it doesn’t matter. I found that rainy days are perfect opportunities to bond and take it easy with each other. Light rain usually just plays as the back round noise while I find indoor activities for us to do like color, read book after book and this m...

The main speaker at the conference was Dr. Susan Wehry from Vermont and the topic was Alzheimer’s and other brain problems of the elders. What a speaker! She started off by listing the myths about the brain such as “The brain can’t make new cells.” Wrong! Then she talked about the experiments with mice, birds, animals and also humans who donate their brains to science. They are fin...

The anti-drug campaign - one of the most widespread of its kind – is a weeklong event with different themes for each day, with each one focused on raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and associated violence. On Monday, students wore red to kick off Red Ribbon Week. T...
Yes, the real Elvis. No, not Costello, but Elvis Stojko, the two-time Olympic skating silver medalist was part of a touring group who held a press conference recently at the Cornwall Civic Complex to announce Rock the Ice. This won’t be your usual figure skating show because when they presented a video from their European shows, in the first five seconds, eyebrows were raised and jaws were dropping. This will be an exciting, unforgettable show not to be missed because it will be so different. D...
