An elderly Akwesasne woman working as a cashier at CT’s (Thompson’s) Store suffered a heart attack Tuesday evening after a young man allegedly pointed a gun at her, pepper-sprayed her and took money out of the cash register. The Akwesasne Mohawk Casino opened a new poker room this past summer and on Oct. 18 they held a charity poker tournament to celebrate the official grand opening. Members of the media were invited to play in the tournament along with representatives from the receiving charities. The casino selected four charities to receive $1000 each. A New York District Court judge has extended a temporary restraining order against the state of New York this week, preventing them from enforcing their Indian-sold cigarette taxation law until at least Nov. 12, 2010. On October 11th, 2010 in the early night hours the Akwesasne Mohawk Police and the Akwesasne Ambulance Service attended Adams Marina in Tsi Snaihne in regards to a boating accident. The male victim sustained injuries to his left arm and left leg in the collision and the other boat with three occupants did not stop to render assistance to the injured person.
