The Akwesasne Mohawk Police and Environment Program are notifying the community that as of Oct. 18, 2024 the location of the black bear that was first spotted on Kawehno:ke (Cornwall Island) on Oct. 9, 2024 is unknown. No bear sightings have been reported to police since Oct. 10th. The Ministry of Natural Resources removed their trap over the weekend and have not yet determined if there is a need to bring the trap back. If the bear is injured, it may not be lured by the trap.
