    For the sixth time, the Massena Red Raiders have claimed the NYSPHSAA Division I championship, finishing the 2013-14 season at 19-5-1. Their crowning victory came against the Ithaca Little Red 4 – 1 in Utica on Sunday, March 9. Ryan Thomas finished with a goal and an assist. Utica came out with an early lead, but the Raiders took over with four unanswered goals to leave the ice as state champions.   • Ice Breaking to Start Next Week on St. Lawrence

    The Canadian Coast Guard will begin spring icebreaking operations on or around March 21st in Akwesasne. The date is only an indicator, as activities could begin before or after that period, according to operational requirements or prevailing weather conditions. Any facilities or equipment on the ice must be moved safely ashore before 11:59 p.m. on March 20th. The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service and the Canadian Coast Guard strongly recommend that pedestrians, fishermen and snowmobilers leave the ice when they see an icebreaker in the vicinity....

    On Saturday, the former IGA was the site for the 2nd Annual Akwesasne Children's Powwow. There were dozens of food and craft vendors and the IGA was packed. The powwow was put on by the Native North American Travelling College with the help of several sponsors.
