    • The Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Confederacy held a Grand Council meeting on Saturday, October 3, 2009 in the Onondaga Nation longhouse. The nations represented included the Onondagas, the Mohawks, the Senecas, the Turcaroras and the Oneidas. The issue to be addressed was the Canadian Customs issue at Akwesasne. The issue was discussed at the last Grand Council meeting held on September 19. The discussion was lengthy but no clear mandate was accepted.     Department of Environment - MCA The Department of Environment has been reacting to too many calls regarding the illegal dumping of construction and deconstruction waste in Akwesasne. It is illegal to dump construction debris anywhere in Akwesasne especially close to waterways. A 30-meter buffer zone must be maintained to ensure that our rivers and streams stay healthy.
