On Saturday, September 30th, the first Family Palooza took place at the Tsi Snaihne Recreation Center. Three community members who felt the need for an event like this to take place in Akwesasne organized the event. Heather Jacobs, one of the three organizers stated, "I went to a family palooza in Ottawa and it costs so much just to go in and more to take pictures and do the meet and greet. On Friday September 29th, 2017, the Akwesasne Suicide Prevention Coalition presented Dr. Darryl Tonemah as guest speaker for their Suicide Prevention Workshop. Dr. Tonemah's workshop was made possible by a grant through the Mental Health Alcohol Chemical Dependency Program and Native Connections. The workshop was free and open to the community to attend. The St. Regis Mohawk School Parent Teacher Organization and Title I worked together to put on three pancake breakfasts during the month of September. Each student in grades Pre K to Grade 5 were allowed to invite one family member to attend the breakfast. In total, we had 217 family members attending our events. On Monday, September 25, 2017, Tarbell Management Group presented the Akwesasne Cancer Support Group with a check for $2652.08. Since 2012, TMG has held a 'Pink Out', selling pink Tim Horton's donuts and ribbons with proceeds going to local cancer support groups. This check represents money raised from last year's Pink Out.
