The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is informing the community that MCA Tehotiiennawakon Environment technicians have confirmed the presence of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) in Akwesasne. The EAB is an invasive insect native to Asia that is responsible for the devastation of millions of ash trees. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) was informed and recently contacted MCA to confirm the identification and to inform environmental staff that we are located in a regulated area for the EAB beetle. The World Indoor Lacrosse Championship concluded their games in front of a mostly Haudenosaunee crowd with a large contingent of them having traveled from Akwesasne. A public meeting was held at the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe Environment Division office to share information of the decommissioning of the dam in Hogansburg on Wednesday, September 23, 2015. Hundreds of people attended the New York Power Authority's Sept. 26 Wildlife Festival in Massena. The event brought reptiles, birds of prey, insects, a petting zoo and other varieties of animals to the Hawkins Point Visitors center. NYPA hosts the event annually. It was a beautiful morning again for the second annual Heart to Heart 9K Walk/Run which was held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Heart to Heart. Over 100 people participated this year and it was a complete success.
