Big Brother really cracks me up. His questions and simple comments to people are so hilarious to me. I don’t know if it is only because he is my kid. I get his attitude and sense of humor. Grandparents Day at Tsiiokwanonhsote was held at the facility on Kawenoke (Cornwall Island) on Sept. 34. The day was meant to celebrate our grandparents and involved a day full of live entertainment from the country rock group “Paul and the String Busters”, everybody’s favorite bingo, and door prizes. This past weekend the Saint Lawrence Islands National Park opened up some new walking trails on the mainland near Jones Creek. Approximately 21 kilometers of new walking trails have opened up across from the Browns Bay picnic area just before Mallorytown Landing heading west alongside Highway 2. A scavenger hunt and walk was held this past Saturday to celebrate the opening of the new trails. New signage welcomes you at the trailhead. The city of Cornwall’s Foundation of the Parade of Nations held a weekend-long celebration of cultures on Sept. 26 and 27. Along with a street parade, the event was a collaboration of talents and exhibits from various cultures. The Hotinonshon:ni Cultural Group participated in the parade, with 15 Akwesasne youth wearing their Mohawk regalia and taking part in the regalia contest. September 27, 2009, AKWESASNE, NY -- Rainy and wet conditions on Sunday afternoon forced Mohawk International Raceway officials to reschedule the 100-lap Iron Man Slick Track Enduro for Saturday, October 3rd, starting at 2PM. An enhanced purse paying $1,500 to the winner, with second paying $1,000 and third paying $500 has drawn much interest from area racers. The 5th Annual Peter Delormier Memorial Bass Fishing Derby will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the Delormier River at the East End of Cornwall Island. The open tryouts for the Iroquois Nationals Men’s Lacrosse Team will culminate on Sunday, October 4th at the St. Regis Mohawk School in Akwesasne. This final open try out will begin at 9am with registration. Field practice begins at 10am and runs through noon, then back for an afternoon session from 1:30-3:30. The fee is 50.00 dollars and each participant will be given an Iroquois Nationals reversible jersey, which is theirs to keep. On Saturday 9/26, the Massena Maniacs traveled to Potsdam and defeated the Potsdam Orange 28-0 on their home turf to remain undefeated.
