The Akwesasne Freedom School’s 28 Annual Dinner and Quilt Auction was held this past weekend Sept. 26-27. The event was organized by parents and teachers of the school in order to raise funds for general expenses needed to run the school, such as: supplies and salaries for teachers and staff. “It helps support language and community” said an anonymous parent. Letter to the editor: The Injustice of Akwesasne Mohawk Court On Thursday September 24 at the Administration Building in Kanatakon a grand injustice occurred. Elders and community members were barred from attending a Mohawk Court hearing. An Akwesasne Police unit was sent as backup in case the Elders stormed the building. Dozens of walkers turned out Sunday afternoon to participate in the first ever Franklin County Down Syndrome Society’s Walk for Down Syndrome, to raise awareness of the disease. The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) recently awarded a $49,000 grant to the Akwesasne Museum to implement a one-year youth training project. The project will develop an exhibit on Tewaá:rathon (lacrosse).
