  • Catfish

    Dr Barbara Gray|Jul 17, 2008

On my birthday, a few weeks ago, there was one thing I wanted to do and that was to go fishing. It was a really beautiful sunny morning and not too hot. I found a nice spot on the St. Regis River off Cook Rd., and I tried out a few lures. It took a while for me to finally catch a pretty good size bluegill, and shortly after that, I got the surprise of a lifetime! I took off the lure and decided to use a worm.  I cast the worm out and after a while I felt something hit my line. As I started to r...

  • Bussing it

    An Anonymous Mother|Jul 17, 2008

Over what I’d have to say the last year, I have dealt with annoying little hiccups with my trusty old car. At first when I got it my only real complaint was that the driver window didn’t go down. So when I would have to go through a drive through or customs I had to open my door. Sometimes in the winter that isn’t something I wanted to do. Like when Baby T is fast asleep in the back and a gust of cold air would gasp him out of a slumber. But hey it could be worse. The radio never worked in it either but we dealt with it. If you ever see a perso...

  • Book: Vanishing Acts

    Delia McDonald|Jul 17, 2008

I’m really beginning to like this author; the way she tells stories is like she has lived them herself. When reading this book I was captivated until the very last page.  Delia’s life had been going pretty well, she had a daughter, a fiancée, and a good home. Everything was fine until her father, Andrew, is arrested…for her kidnapping. Delia’s world takes a downward slide, all the things she thought she knew are put into question. She remembers nothing of the ordeal that she went through or anything about her life before it happened....

  • Tales From the Station

    Adrian McDonald|Jul 17, 2008

I was sent to the fire academy for a Mask Confidence (Smoke Divers) Instructor’s course. This course is designed to build confidence in firefighters and had been successful in transforming firefighters into confident superhero types. It is such a good course that it is now part of the Firefighter One rookie course. I had a couple of months to prepare so I borrowed a dust covered treadmill and began working out on it everyday. I heard horror stories of firefighters going to this course completely out of shape and being sent home or ending up hos...

  • UTICA Boilermaker 15K

    Shawn Martin|Jul 17, 2008

July 13, 2008 The day started at 5 am.   It was raining and it was windy in Utica.    I thought, never ran a Boilermaker race when it wasn’t hot.  Even better.   Wouldn’t you know it by 7:30 am on the way to the start line, it stops raining.   The race announcer states a piece of Boilermaker history that it has never rained DURING the race. I took a quick look behind me and saw this mass of people, 11,000 altogether waiting.   As the gun went off, I found myself only 30 seconds or so from th...
