I’ve been in the fire department for fifteen years and more than likely I’ll be in for fifteen more. There is nothing that says Akwesasne more than our fire department with it’s three stations located in Hogansburg, New York, Kawehnoke, Ontario and Tsi Snaihne, Quebec. We don’t recognize any borders and we will respond anywhere in Akwesasne. It is an amazing organization that started from such humble beginnings it is hard to believe what a premiere organization we are today. With sixty-five members we are now a large department with sixteen pie...
A routine to my surprise has fallen quite nicely into place. Though I am one for schedules and what works equally, I usually have dealt with what works. Since the beginning of bedtime in our house it has sort of been when Baby T was tired enough to pass out. And even though I would crave an earlier bedtime for him, he always would stay up until eleven. Which is pretty late and well was all too normal for us. As a family we would go to bed when the late news came on. Back when Baby T was a newborn that is how it was every day. I mean Baby T...
The Ahkwesahsne Mohawk School’s Reading Committee thought it would be a fun idea for the classes to read a pirate-themed book to celebrate the day. The reading committee provided eye patches, and bandannas to make the read aloud more authentic. Teachers were invited to bring in other pirate gear if they happened to have some at home. The pictures of children and staff getting into the spirit of “International Talk Like a Pirate Day” demonstrate how much fun everyone had. A special “Yo Ho Ho...

Nathan Delormier of Akwesasne picked the right night to finish 1st as he not only earned himself a trip to the Mohawk Bingo Palace Victory Lane but picked up a hefty $600.00 check besides. Billy Woodward, Jr. driving Trevor Arquette’s #7x and Mike Allen started on the front row of the Jacobs Excavation / Sparky’s Electric sponsored event with Woodward getting the early lead followed by Allen, Delormier, Preston Mossow and Dick Planty who came out of retirement for the event. Allen continued to work Woodward for the top spot and on lap #4 in...

Over the weekend I attended my first NASCAR race at Dover Downs in Delaware. It was an amazing experience with the weather being absolutely perfect and the race being fantastic. We tailgated before the race along with fifty thousand of our closest friends in the parking lot. The racetrack is a sight to behold with grandstands surrounding all but the backstretch where the Casino is located. Yes, Dover has the only NASCAR track with a casino on the grounds. We sat in between turns one and two and...
