    It’s a new year for the Salmon River Lady Shamrocks Volleyball team. It’s also a rebuilding year after losing eight seniors to graduation. The Lady Shamrocks took a step in the right direction with a win to open their NAC season with a 3-1 win over Brushton-Moira at home. The Lady Panthers came ready to play and took the first set 25-16. The Lady Shamrocks didn’t dwell on it and got back to work to win the next three sets with scores of 25-9, 28-18, 25-13.     The Massena Lady Raiders varsity soccer team fell to the Franklin Academy Huskies on Friday, Sept. 13 on their home turf. The closing score was 2 – 0. Abigail Collins scored both goals, opening the scoreboard 14 minutes into the first half by sneaking a shot past Raider netminder Bailie Young unassisted.     The Salmon River girl’s soccer season got underway last week with the Lady Shamrocks on the road in Ogdensburg to take on the Blue Devils and left town with a 1-0 opening game victory. After a scoreless first half the Lady Shamrocks got on the scoreboard in the second when senior Taylor Francis headed the ball from a corner shot by Kelby Mitchell.     The Massena Red Raiders varsity swim team took down the Gouverneur Wildcats in their season opener at home on Friday, Sept. 13 by a final score of 58 – 33. The Lady Raiders’ Taylor Brault, Abby Elman, Kalie Peets and Savannah Hayes got their squad off to a strong start by taking nine points in the meet’s opening event – the 200-meter medley relay.
