You may have seen a sign in Akwesasne announcing border wait times located just across the road from Twin Leaf as you have traveled in or out of Akwesasne this last week. The sign is the result of a partnership between the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne and the Canada Border Service Agency. Kanatakon District Chief Larry King has worked with a variety of agencies to get approval and make this sign a reality, but it was ultimately the CBSA that ponied up the money to rent the solar powered sign....

There is a survey available at www.akwesasne.ca/ferrysurvey that intends to gauge community interest in a ferry service running from Kanatakon to Kawehnoke. For the future, including a pickup site in Snye is being considered as well. The aim here is to figure out how the community would use a ferry. Even though that may seem obvious, there are other issues that need to be considered too, such as if the community would be willing to support operation and management costs associated with running...

Letter to the Editor September 10, 2013 Third Party Management? The possibility of Mohawk Council of Akwesasne going into third party management was mentioned at the last general meeting. Cutting programs that are a benefit to the community is...

Luckily, Shakohsennakehte, who was already inside the school, came back out and got on her bus and accompanied her into the building. What a great big...

Submitted by Leona Barnes, Community Health BUILDING RESPONSIBILITY 31. Try a simple cardboard box to help make your children responsible for school belongings. The last few weeks have been so jam packed full of worry and hurt that it’s been practically impossible to sit down and write. Big brother went through a four day hospital stay, where for the first couple of days his diagnosis kept changing. I slept in that hospital with him. He was in a tremendous amount of pain. All I wanted was to take it away for him, to be the one who hurt instead of him. For a couple days before we brought him in he had painful abdominal pain each day right around supper time and be back to normal by morning. The first d...
