This is a story about an independent man who will soon turn and celebrate his 103rd birthday. Freeman "Jacob" Lazore was born on September 12, 1912. His mom passed away when he was only 12 years old and he then lived with his late sister Emma Lazore Cole until he turned 16. Freeman left the area to look for work and traveled toward the Albany area to work on farms and logging. After that, he came closer to home to work in Syracuse where he lived for 42 years. On September 2, 2015, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service began an investigation into the deaths of 2 men after the Seadoo they were travelling on capsized near the east end of Cornwall Island on the St. Lawrence River. Investigation has revealed that the 3 passengers on the Seadoo may have recently entered Canada from India. The names of the deceased cannot be released since their next of kin have yet to be located and notified. The driver of the Seadoo, Louis J. Strangulation: On Sept. 3, Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police arrested Gabriel J. Oakes, 49, of Hogansburg and charged him with second-degree strangulation and first-degree criminal possession of marijuana, both felonies, and misdemeanors third-degree assault, resisting arrest and unlawful growing cannabis.
