The first day back to school is over. Everyone is back on schedule and we can all relax and settle into the 2016/2017 school year. The Akwesasne Mohawk Board of Education had over 607 students return to the Akwesasne Mohawk School, the Kana:takon School and Tsi Snaihne School this year. Traffic in Massena looking to cross the Grasse River will not be able to use the Parker Avenue bridge until next year, and the underpass will be closed permanently. On Sept. 12, the Department of Transportation closed the bridge, which is expected to be shut down until the fall of 2017. They are taking it down and rebuilding the structure. The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne held their General Monthly Meeting on September 1, 2016 at the Tsi Snaihne Recreation Center. Originally, this meeting was set for August 25, but was cancelled due to the unfortunate passing of two community members.
