  • Going to School The First Days of School

    Sep 2, 2010

The Night Before “Get your child ready for bed a bit earlier than usual. This leaves time for listening to thoughts and feelings about the first day of school — before your child goes to sleep. Review the next day’s plan together. Discuss how you will say goodbye and how happy you will be to see one another after school or after you return from work.” Try these strategies to help your child (and you) get in the groove of the first days of school. Get up early. This means you can have a relaxed breakfast, leave enough time to deal with upsets ...

  • Happy meals

But not so fast: Treating your bad mood with junk food will only get you more of the same. Instead, nurture your body and your mood with the best blues-busting foods around. Leaf Greens Leafy greens like spina...

  • How to be happy

    Sep 2, 2010

America was founded on the right to pursue it. The Dalai Lama says seeking it is our life’s purpose. It is in high demand — yet the basis for happiness remains elusive. Psychologists define it as an emotional state that arises in association with positive feelings, such as joy, contentment, and empathy. Biochemists say it’s a physical experience created by neurotransmitters, such as serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins in the brain. While there is no single way to increase your happiness, you can cover your bases by doing things that feed your...

    Sep 2, 2010

But it’s not helpful to a child to have parents who are so anxious about their child’s education that they make their child anxious as a learner.” Many loving parents get anxious sending their children off to school. The strategie...
