    The annual Akwesasne Freedom School Survival Race and Quilt Auction took place over the weekend, on August 24 and 25. This year’s race saw 13 teams competing in five legs of the race: swimming, canoeing, biking, backpacking, and running. The race is conducted relay style with each participant needing to tag off with their teammate before they can start the next leg of the race.     The Human Rights Tribunal of Fallan Davis V. CBSA continued this week. Debbie Zion, a Canada Border Service Agency operations director, testified that it took many attempts to locate important video footage of an alleged harassment incident involving Davis in 2005. Zion told the tribunal she finally discovered a package containing footage material, in all places a “personal locker.” The evidence was found in December 2009, four years after Fallan Davis was interrogated by Cornwall port of entry CBSA agents on Nov. 18, 2005.     Eight local girls won a chance to compete at the international level after winning the Ontario Aboriginal Summer Games volleyball tournament on Sunday, August 25. They will travel to Regina, Saskatchewan in late July of next year to represent Ontario in the North American Indigenous Games. An estimated 6,000 athletes will compete in the games.     The summer GED program, held at the Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club, held a graduation ceremony on Friday, August 23, 2013. The ceremony, which included 13 graduates out of the 35 who completed the program, recognized the students achievements and marks the opening of a door.     Akwesasne - The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department has received a welcomed addition to the station with the installation of an 8’ chain link fence. The installation has been completed by St. Lawrence Fence Company and took approximately one week to set up. The scope of work consisted of installing over 700 feet of commercial chain link fencing.
