    (August 21, 2017) — The American Red Cross urges eligible donors to give blood during National Preparedness Month to help ensure a readily available supply for emergencies. Blood and platelet donors of all blood types, especially type O, are urgently needed to replenish the blood supply following a critical summer blood shortage. A readily available blood supply is needed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help trauma patients and others with serious medical needs.     The Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation announced that public access to its Visitors’ Center at the U.S. Eisenhower Lock for the 2017 navigation season ends at 6:00 pm on Labor Day, September 4. From Monday, August 28 through September 4, the Center will be open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and is free to the public. Gift shop hours will be from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm.     Quilts from the estate of Betty Vebber, Pierrepont, NY, will be offered to the public in a special sale taking place at The TAUNY Center in Canton, NY on Sunday, September 10, 2:00-4:00 pm. Fifty-six quilts, ranging from small wall hangings to full-size bed quilts will be available for purchase.
