A Cornwall Island, Ont., man was sentenced to just over three years in prison on Monday, Aug. 12 for conspiring to smuggle oxycodone through Akwesasne. Nathan Benedict, 34, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Albany to 37 months behind bars to be followed by three years’ post-release supervision. The Senior Center held an appreciation lunch on Monday for everyone who helped after the flood that happened on June 15. Director Kallen Martin explained that it was a big effort. At least 2 inches of water sat on the floor. The laminate flooring began to bubble up after it finally dried, and it was clear that the floor had to be replaced.
