    The life of Katsitsientha Barnes ended tragically Tuesday, Aug. 18 when she crashed on an ATV near her home on Swamp Road in Akwesasne. Tribal police were called to the accident at approximately 7 p.m. but the 10-year-old athlete and horse-lover and was pronounced dead upon her arrival to Massena Memorial Hospital.     Tribal employees and officials are organizing an event that they hope will set a precedent for other Akwesasne organizations and people to work at making the community safer. The first ever “gun drop” will be held likely at the tribal community building sometime in the upcoming weeks. The event will give anyone in Akwesasne the opportunity to rid themselves of assault weapons anonymously and without fear of prosecution. Seeking a judgment that the boundaries of the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation have remained unchanged since 1796, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe filed a civil lawsuit against the State of New York and Franklin County.
