    Akwesasne, NY - At the Monthly Tribal meeting held on Seskéha/August 6, 2016, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council introduced two draft questions that will be posed to the membership through a tribal referendum. The introduction of the draft questions pertain to the proposed exploration of medical marijuana and industrial hemp; which was postponed from the June 4th tribal election.     A community member shared photos with Indian Time he had taken on Tuesday, August 9, 2016. He was fishing with his grandchildren in the St. Lawrence River. What he thought were 'floaties' on the river, upon closer inspection, turned out to be five gutted sturgeon. The sturgeon appeared to be juvenile in age – sturgeon usually mature around 10 to fifteen years of age.     Territory of Akwesasne – The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe (SRMT) will host the Annual Boom Deployment Drill and Emergency Exercise August 23-24, 2016.     The first phases of the removal of the Hogansburg Dam are underway. A community meeting on the removal of the dam was held on Thursday, August 4 at the SRMT.     On June 20, 2016 the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne passed MCR 2016/2017 #069 approving Hydro Quebec to proceed with the installation of the “Next Generation Meters” in the Districts of Kana:takon and Tsi Snaihne. As a result of the approval, Hydro Quebec will proceed with replacing the electrical meter on your home. This work is expected to occur August 15-19, 2016 between 8AM and 5PM.
