Rats are a nocturnal creature, yet there have been sightings of several rats, some who seem unafraid of humans, during the day. On Saturday, August 5th, the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino held a classic car show, which took place during ElvisFest. The weather was gorgeous for the outdoor show. There were a number of entries from all over the area, and a broad range of cars and trucks. Among the most interesting, and not often seen was a 1914 Model T “Depot Hack,” which was a Ford Model T Chassis, motor and tires, and a hand made carriage placed on top, made by a cabinet maker. Niawen:kowa To Chief Ron Lafrance for putting up the bears on the walk path at Seniors. They do look a lot better there than laying in the tall grass. We enjoyed an outing to the Wild Center in Tupper Lake, which is only 1.5 hours away. We enjoyed the live fish exhibits, the playful otters, the glacial ice wall, the hiking trail and the beautiful mountain scenery. We would like to thank the Akwesasne Library for making available to all library card holders an admission pass which got us all into the Wild Center for free! Economic Development, Community Health and Environment programs of Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, came together to conduct a Garden Contest. The contest began on Friday June 1st with 11 family teams registered and their garden plot plans submitted. Canton Village Detour In Effect Please be advised the detour for the Canton Village Reconstruction Project went into service Monday, August 6. The detour, which runs from Riverside Drive to State Street and ends at State Route 310 will reduce through traffic congestion on US Route 11 as work continues on the project.
