    • This is a busy week at the Onondaga nation. The Onondagas are hosting the Annual Elder’s Gathering. The Elder’s Gathering happens every year but usually out west. This is the first time in a long while that the Elders have come to the east. This year is also special because the youth have been invited to participate. The youth want an opportunity to come together and talk about their issues. The youth will also be able to sit and listen to the elder’s talking about spirituality.     The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribes Department of Social Services held a summer BBQ last Friday evening at the Generations Field. The different programs under DSS including Preventive Foster Care Unit, Intensive Preventive Program, Adult Protective Services and Child Protective Services coordinated this event. Other programs like the Alcohol and Chemical Dependency Program were on hand to provide information to those from the community who stopped in to learn more about the Foster Care Program....

    “We want to make sure that our school is beautiful for the kids,” said St. Regis Mohawk School Principal Sharlee Thomas of the capital projects to improve the campus environment.     The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service would like to advise the public that they have received a complaint of a scam. A community member received an unsolicited telephone call advising her that she had won a cellular telephone. However, the caller requested her Driver’s License Number, the number from her Birth Certificate, and her Social Security Number.     The Akwesasne Warriors Masters Lacrosse Team played host for five teams that participated in the 2011 Peter Burns Memorial Masters Lacrosse Tournament on July 16th-17th. The teams traveled from Onondaga, Ottawa and two from Kahnawake to compete in the lacrosse tournament, which hasn’t been held in Akwesasne since 2004.     Peter Burns Sr. was born in 1930 and at an early age was introduced to the game of lacrosse. He devoted most of his life to the game, and when he could no longer physically play, he continued to help grow future players.     The Haudenosaunee Girls U19 lacrosse team traveled to Holland, Germany this past weekend to play in the 2011 world tournament that includes 12 teams this year.
