  • Federal Court rejects sovereign immunity in Allergan – Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe patent case

    Jul 26, 2018

In a unanimous decision, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit found in a 3 to 0 decision that the inter partes (Latin for ‘between the parties’) review process is closer to an “agency enforcement action” like that of a complaint brought by the Federal Trade Commission of the Federal Communication, than that of a regular lawsuit. Inter partes (IPR) is a process that allows anyone to challenge a patent’s validity at the United States Patent and Trademark Office This decision rejects the legal claim that ‘sovereig...

  • Win-Win situation at Border... really?

    Jul 26, 2018

Letter to the Editor July 23, 2018 Win-Win situation at Border... really? The US customs has announced a new pilot program to speed up border crossings for Mohawk residents of Akwesasne and consider it Win-Win for them and us, so they say. We were meant to travel freely within our community north and south and beyond. We must not forget that we are North American Indians! I would not categorize this as win-win but a further...

Many were stolen out-right by trickery or force, sometimes by government officials who also had no right to seize them. Some were robbed from graves and placed in museums, and no one recalls their significance. The meaning of others has been lost as Indian communities...
