    On Friday and Saturday, July 19 and 20, Cornwall’s NavCenter hosted the Inaugural Canadian Golden Gloves Championship. Boxers, trainers and their families from all over Canada descended on Cornwall to participate in the first event of this kind for Boxing Canada.     By Ian Oakes On Saturday, July 19, at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino and Resort, the 11th annual Ironworkers Competition was held, and the weather was gorgeous. The competition, which has become a staple in Akwesasne, has competitors come from all over to compete for the title of Ultimate Ironworker.   • Human Rights Tribunal Continues in Davis Case

    The Human Rights Tribunal of Fallan Davis V. CBSA continued Friday at Nav Canada Center in Cornwall. Testimony was given by CBSA witnesses and Davis was not present due to continued illness and stress. Proceedings will continue August 26-29. The Tribunal is in response to a complaint made by Davis following a 2005 incident at Cornwall Port of Entry. Davis was selected to have her SUV scanned by a gamma ray imaging machine, and Davis alleges she was treated very poorly. Davis has concerns about the exposure to radiation she endured during the...

    On Thursday, July 18, a presentation was held to show the film Flames of War, which is a 45 minute film about the war of 1812. The event began around 8:30 after some warm ups, and it opened up with an exhibition of traditional dancers and singers.     This weekend’s trip took us to Boston. After the workday we got into our car and headed to St. Regis to pick up my mom. She had been patiently waiting for us to hit the road for an hour.     On Friday, July 19, friends and family gathered to help Emily Tarbell by holding a benefit lunch and auction for her. The benefit lunch was $5 and included your choice of hamburger or hotdog and sides.
