    On June 18, 2012, New York State Supreme Court Judge David Demarest ruled that the State of New York had no right to confiscate cigarettes manufactured in Akwesasne and bound for the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. “Judge Demarest’s ruling affirms the sovereign right of tribes to engage in intertribal trade,” remarked Randy Hart, Tribal Chief. “And the manufacturer is federally licensed to manufacture tobacco products.” Judge Demarest ruled that no taxes were due.     On Sunday, July 1st, a swearing in ceremony was held behind the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Building with David Staddon acting as Master of Ceremonies. The ceremony was to swear the newly elected Chief Paul Thompson, sub-chief Eric Thompson, and Tribal Clerk Corleen Jackson-Jacco, into office.     On Thursday June 28 a Dr. Seuss party was held at Generations Park. There was a great turnout and lots of Dr. Seuss characters. The event was free and had food and tons of activities.     Tina’s Pride, a group dedicated to raising awareness for breast cancer, held a benefit car wash on Saturday, June 30th. Car washes were five dollars and all proceeds went to sponsoring the group’s annual trip to Syracuse to participate in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk – held in Clinton Square on September 30th 2012 at 10 AM.     The brothers are loving the summer months. They have been bugging me almost every day to either go swimming or take them to the beach.
