Akwesasne, NY – On Monday, July 8, Judge Lawrence E. Kahn, issued an Order accepting the majority of the recommendations made by Magistrate Judge Dancks in September, 2012. Not surprisingly, the Court dismissed claims to the remaining areas identified in the Tribe’s Treaty of 1796, citing laches, the def...

May the spirits be with you for you will always be my son. There isn’t a day that goes by when I don’t think of you. On this day it’s worse because they took your life away from me! I still hear and feel your presence. I know those footsteps are yours, and that voice that says Ma! Ma! like you always did. That brings a smile to my face for a little while. It’s been 4 years now, still it seems like yesterday. I miss him so much! The days are coming closer to finding out who did this tragic...
The purpose of competing in a tribal election is to win public office and to gain power and influence over tribal policy and tribal resources. Tribal elections are the result of a complex process that requires the participation of a variety of actors, each with different roles and agendas. Our elections always result in winners and losers. Everyone wants to be the winner; few want to lose. Election corruption is political corruption – for example, manipulating the election process to ensure that the election of a particular individual or t...

By: Jheri White and Curtis White I will not be there in the morning to wait for you to come into my room and say those awful words, “get up it is time for school.” I want you to be strong mom, and remember only peace in your heart and I will be with you forever. Get up, your bus is here, did you get your lunch? Do not forget we are going to grandmas for dinner. Did you brush your teeth and your hair? I understand those words will never be spoken in your home, but I hope that I can bring peace into your heart. That when I speak those words, “I...
Tonto means “stupid” in Spanish and this movie obviously relishes not only that name but uses it to describe anyone suckered into this 150-minute mess. Nothing makes sense in the film, from the stunning lack of historical accuracy to the silly action sequences, the simplistic dialogue or the physical settings. At one moment the characters are in the dust plains of what is supposed to be Texas, then riding through Arizona’s Monument Valley before having their ranches burned in what looks like the high mountain meadows of the Canadian Rocki...

Big data refers to sets of information that are so large and complex that it’s difficult or even impossible to process it with the older technology of database management tools and applications. Capturing, curating, storing, searching, sharing, and analyzing data is a challenge, and can be impossible when the size of the data is always moving and includes a few dozen terabytes or petabytes. About 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created each day from mobile devices, remote sensors, software logs, microphones, cameras, rfid readers, and w...
