Indian Time is lucky to receive many visitors every week. Whether it’s a parent bringing in a new baby for a photograph or an elder who wants us to look at photos with him, our doors are always open and we love our visitors. We love them so much we want to share them with you. Our new “We Love Visitors” series is simply a way to share members of the community with you. So, don’t be scared to come and visit us (we’ll only photograph those willing) but if you have something special you want to s...

  • AN IROQUOIS THANKSGIVING “Let There Be Thanks”

    Jul 10, 2008

It was decided by our Creator that: we should always give thanks when ever we gather for any reason. We turn our voices toward him. We speak first of the Earth, Our Mother, that supports us, from her we obtain many things; the different grasses and bushes that give us medicine. The many kinds of hanging fruit we use, among which are the strawberry and the raspberry. The standing forests and especially the maple that gives us its sweet juice. All of the animals that provide our food and clothing, among them, our deer. The birds that fly over us...

  • Book: A Rose for Melinda

    Delia McDonald|Jul 10, 2008

The article this week is about a book that I have read numerous times for its well-written and tear jerking qualities. Lurlene McDaniel will always go down as one of my favorite authors because she writes so well and even though her stories are sad…they always seem to end up having happy endings. Melinda Skye and Jesse Rose have been friends since the first grade, when they had exchanged their first set of notes in class. Jesse had taken an instant liking to Melinda. Their relationship continued over their junior and partway through high s...

  • Our little social moth

    An Anonymous Mother|Jul 10, 2008

Aside from beating the heat Baby T has had quite the social calendar. He has managed to go to the movies twice and the beach four times. The only time he wants to stay home is early in the morning. He likes to take his time getting ready and packing his stuff up. He tries really hard to remember everything he thinks he’ll use. And lucky for me he isn’t too crazy with what he actually expects me to haul. When we went to the movies he had me carry a pillow and blanket. Even though I did feel a little weird being the only parent with an arm...

  • Indians lose first at home, respond in big way

    Kyle Lowry|Jul 10, 2008

One day after losing for the first time at the Turtle this year, 8-6 to Burlington, the Akwesasne Indians showcased their double-D’s in getting a 7-0 win over Brampton the very next day. The aforementioned double-D’s were defense and Delormier as the goaltender was stellar in stopping 42 shots for the rare shutout. “It was all Justin to preserve that shutout, especially late, he made 3 saves on odd-man rushes that were just huge,” reflected head coach Adam Thompson. Brampton looked completely frustrated the entire game as the Indians defense...

July 6, 2008 By Mark Stehlin Whitby, ON - First the Peterborough Lakers and now the St. Regis Indians, calls of “bring on the Excelsiors” could be heard throughout Iroquois Park tonight. The Redmen will soon be called giant killers if this trend continues. They knocked off the defending Mann Cup champs Lakers last Thursday 10-7 and tonight faced another tough opponent in the St Regis Indians. The Indians played last night in Brampton and lost 13-10 to the top ranked Excelsiors. Tonight was a penalty filled affair with 74 minutes to the Red...
