    Akwesasne’s border crisis had a number of ups and downs this week and although the bridge was closed to northbound traffic as of press time Wednesday night, some hope for a resolution is in sight. The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne announced Wednesday that they have developed a plan of action which Canada Border Services Agency has been open to.   • Akwesasne men busted crossing border with ecstasy

    Two Cornwall Island men were federally charged after a search of their vehicle at U.S. Customs unveiled approximately $1.5 million worth of ecstasy pills. Police say Mitchell David, 53 and Silas Benedict, 50 were crossing into the U.S. from Canada at the Massena/Rooseveltown port of entry. A closer inspection of their pickup truck using a density meter helped to uncover the drugs. Approximately 50,000 ecstasy pills were found in sandwich bags hidden in the truck’s spare tire.     This week the United States Drug Enforcement Agency announced they have dismantled a marijuana drug smuggling operation based in Northern New York. Thirteen individuals have been named in an indictment, each facing federal prison time. The DEA and assisting police forces work collaboratively under the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) and they have now dismantled three drug operations under Operation Iron Curtain. Two appeals were filed following MCA’s June 27, 2009 election. He was born July 26, 1940 on the Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation in Hogansburg, the son of the late Donald and Irene (Ransom) Richmond. He was a Vietnam veteran serving two tours of duty.
