June 30, 2014 Letter to the Editor BEVERLY PYKE VS MOHAWK COUNCIL OF AKWESASNE On Thursday June 26, 2014, I went to provincial court in Cornwall, Ontario to support Beverly Pyke’s court action against the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne. This particular case is interesting because it will verify the duties and functions of a Power of Attorney on lands and estate matters. I also wanted to witness the Mohawk Council in provincial court fighting against a community member on a land and estate issue. A representative for the Mohawk Council and their l...
TERRITORY OF AKWESASNE – The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) is informing the community to be aware of telemarketing scam artists and high-pressure sales people who may take advantage of the elderly. Summer is here and while most people will head to the river, beach or island, some like the sights, sounds and bustle of the big city, and you can’t get any bigger than New York City. Sure we can run to Ottawa or Montreal but we have all been there and I haven’t run into many things that are really free to visit. What is different about NYC is the number of places offering free entrance. Besides, New York City is so exciting and it’s a great way to introduce your older kids to interesting and educational places and to GET THEM OUT OF STORES AND...
