The first issue of Indian Time was printed 30 years ago on July 1, 1983. It was printed every two weeks and the cost was $ .50. The editorial team at AKWESASNE NOTES was a bunch of Mohawk poets: Dan Thompson (Rokwaho) and myself, Alex Jacobs (Karoniaktakie). Later Peter Blue Cloud (Aroniawenrate), also involved was Salli Benedict, a poet and writer in her own right, and a board member of the Akwesasne Communications Society. In a ceremony held on Thursday June 27, Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School graduated the Class of 2013. Due to the size of the graduating class, the ceremony needed to be split in half, with last names starting with letters A-K at 10 AM, and letters L-Z had their ceremony at 2 PM. On Tuesday June 25th the Kanatakon School celebrated students who worked extra hard all year with an awards ceremony. Parents were invited to attend and it was a packed house. Principal Alice King applauded the staff and students for all their hard work and thanked parents for attending many events. AKWESASNE – Ms. Elizabeth “Kawisenhawe” Hopps, age 92, of 1195 Island Road, Cornwall Island, passed away after a short illness in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side on Thursday morning, June 27, 2013. We had another weekend filled with kids and silly conversations. Friday night my little niece came over and filled our home with all her fabulous girly talk.
