On Wednesday, June 22, 2016, the Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education honored individuals involved in language preservation. This event was held at Kana:takon School in the gymnasium. The gymnasium was decorated with sunflower artwork created by students and tables were accented with sunflower centerpieces. The gradual lowering of the project impoundment (or pond) began this week. The work to physically remove the dam will begin on Monday, July 18. On Friday, June 24, 2016, more than 200 people attended the 2016 graduation ceremony at the Salmon River Arena, where 102 students received their diplomas. The students, their families and friends were all smiles as the school paid tribute to the hard work and accomplishments of their graduating students.
