AKWESASNE -- The SRMT Water Resources Program has issued a Scientific Collectors Permit to the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to conduct electrofishing work in Jurisdictional Tribal waters. On June 26, 2023 at 2:55 p.m., the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service received a call from youth who were swimming at the point in the village of Kana:takon (St. Regis). The youth had discovered bone remains. Police arrived and collected the remains which were partially intact. Police consulted with a Canadian Anthropologist Expert who provided information to AMPS deeming the bone remains to belong to a bear.
