On Friday, June 23rd, the eighty-one graduates of Salmon River Central School walked the stage to accept their high school diplomas. Twenty-seven Native American students wrapped up their careers at Massena Central High School and graduated as members of the Class of 2017 on Saturday, June 24. Upwards of 1,000 people packed into Massena Arena to watch them cross the stage and receive Regents diplomas. (June 20, 2017) The Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club recently received a $15,000 grant from the First Nations Development Institute of Longmont, Colorado. This award will support the efforts of the Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club’s Nutrition for Kids Project. The project aims to assist 100 community children from low-income families with food for weekends and during the times when school is out. On June 22, 2017, a group of individuals gathered at the four corners on Kawehnoke, to raise funds to fix the longhouse that they love. It was brought to people's attention that the roof needs to be fixed. It only took a handful of individuals who attend the longhouse one day to raise over $4,000.
