Five Ahkwesahsne senior students were honored and received their graduation chords along with one Junior and were all inducted into the National Honor Society on May 9th at the Massena Central School. The students are Jeff Cooke, Wahehson Lazore, Tyler Sunday, Kiowere Rourke, Erin Francis and Jr. Inductee Hunter Francis. The Salmon River District community approved the $29,076,511 budget passed on Tuesday with a margin of 44 votes. A total of 674 voters showed up at the polls Tuesday, and 359 voted yes to the budget as well as the purchase of two 66-passenger buses not to exceed $210,000. Newcomers Roger Lapage and Peter Ghostlaw, both of Fort Covington, were elected to serve five-year terms on the Board of Education. As the boys grew from babies into boys, the sort of things I stumbled across in daily life has changed. In the beginning of their little lives it was a pacifier under a couch or a baby sock in a cupboard. Things that would go missing were baby bottle caps and wipe cases. For two months the people of Akwesasne worked diligently to have the new Longhouse built for the moving of the fire.
