On May 29 the Friends of Tewathahita Community Walking Trail hosted the first annual Tewathahita Community Walking Trail golf tournament at Cedar View Golf Course in Massena, NY. The objective of the Akwesasne Area Management Board 2009-10 Best Matches Program was to provide the Summer Employment Experience Development and START- Stay in School Program applicants with part-time employment opportunities. The 2009 post-secondary and secondary students were matched up with their previous summer employers from December 1st, 2009 to March 26th, 2010. On Monday May 31st the Akwesasne Soaring Eagles Volleyball Club received their Post Secondary Summer Employment student worker from Akwesasne Area Management. We are proud to announce that former SUNY Potsdam player Chelsea Sunday will be assisting the Soaring Eagles with making sure the girls attending the Quebec Inter-band games get the proper physical training and volleyball skills needed to be competitive at these games come July 4-11th. In Potsdam on Thursday May 27, the playoffs took place for sectional championships for local teams. The stands were filled as spectators went to cheer on their favorite teams. The first game played was between Massena Raiders and St. Lawrence Larries. The Larries came out on top as winners 17-10 for the sectional win. To watch this team is so enjoyable from start to finish. They have had an excellent season after the fine coaching from Ahkwesahsne’s own Jim Barnes. It wasn’t too much of a surprise that he would be chosen as the “Coach of the Year”. On May 29 the Akwesasne Thunderbirds took on the Snake Island Muskies 8pm start time at the Massena Arena. This was the second time these two teams faced off this season. The Thunderbirds suffered their fifth straight loss with another close score of 9-13.
