Dear Editor, I am writing to endorse the candidacy of Eric Thompson for Sub-Chief of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe. As a former board member for Tewathahonni Corporation and the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino, LLC, it is evident to me that the same old style of politics isn’t working at the Tribal Council and it’s time for change in Akwesasne . Eric was born and raised in Akwesasne, has two Mohawk parents, speaks our language, has a family, and lives our culture. Most importantly, Eric is a professional, and his law background, in conjunction with his...
Letter to the Editor, The recent media coverage of Cst. Mike Biron’s receipt of the Governor General’s Award for Bravery has unfortunately focused not on his heroic behaviour but rather on the protestations of a few malcontents within our community. While we were all saddened by the tragedy, it is not forgotten that Cst. Biron was found innocent and in the execution of his duties. Far from considering the dismissal of Cst. Biron, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Association believes that he has in the past and continues to serve this community mee...

I watched my brother struggle to financially survive while attending Albany College of Pharmacy. The financial assistance was not there when he was attending school. He wrote letters to anyone that he felt would send him a donation. It was only the cost of a stamp t...
Dear Community Member: When you walk into my Home and see my fellow Residents and myself sitting, do not feel sorry for me or us. We are content. We are safe. We are well-fed (the food is good here!) There are various activities scheduled for us to participate in. But, what we really enjoy is your smile and a five minute conversation, a bit of your time. You bring us news from the community. Do not ask what I had for breakfast or what I did yesterday. This information may be forgotten already and cause me undue stress because I cannot...
