KC Herne was recognized in Albany as Boys and Girls Clubs 'Youth of the Year' on Tuesday, May 20. Herne was recognized as a Boys and Girls Clubs New York State Alliance 2014 Youth of the Year. She is a sixth-year member of the Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club where she is a mentor. She's also a volunteer at the local senior center, Salvation Army and Cultural Youth Camp. On Sunday May 25th, the annual Memorial Day Parade was hosted by American Legion Post 1479. This year's theme was "Past – Present – Future" and the parade started at 1pm. The parade was filled with floats, marching bands, veterans and tons of candy for the kids. Memorial ceremonies were held both at the bridge in Hogansburg and at the Legion. AKWESASNE – Mr. Julius White, 76, of 378 State Route 37, Sunrise Acres, formerly of Malone, peacefully passed away Sunday evening, May 25, 2014 at his home with his family by his side. Julius was born August 16, 1937 in Hogansburg, the son of the late Henry and Catherine Casey White and attended Mohawk schools. The St. Regis Mohawk Elementary Band was outside practicing their marching skills on Thursday, and if you watched the Memorial Day Parade on Sunday, you saw them play. On Sunday, the St. Regis Mission Church Fundraising Committee held a Memorial Day Bazaar at Kateri Hall. There were several vendors and two bouncy houses outside along with concession stands selling hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage, cotton candy, ice cream and much more.
