This event was created to help World War II veterans to get to Washington, DC to see their memorial. All the participants who take the veterans are volunteers. A recruiter from Plattsburgh, Cynthia Nadeau, spoke to Lud Beeson to find a woman veteran. He directed her to Joanne Reyome. Both the recruiter and Joanne started to search for WWII vets in the area. Huge crowds turned out to view dozens of all varieties of cars at Frenchie's "Great Northern New York Auto Show" on Saturday, May 21. Hundreds of people showed up for the free event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A portion of East Orvis Street was blocked off. The gathering also included a bouncy house, a dunking booth and displays from Massena and Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Departments and Massena Rescue. The St. Regis Mohawk Elementary School held their annual Spring Concerts last week. Pre-K and Kindergarten students kicked off the series on Tuesday, May 17, 2016. Following that performance, Grade 1 and 2 performed on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. Band and Chorus members in Grades 3, 4 and 5 entertained audiences on Thursday, May 19, 2016. The Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation announced that the Dwight D. Eisenhower Visitors’ Center, located at the U. S. Eisenhower Lock, will open on Friday, May 27, 2016 and remain open daily, including weekends, through Labor Day, September 5, 2016.
