On Monday at the St. Regis Mohawk School, a documentary entitled Food Inc. was shown to the community. The purpose of the showing was to raise awareness for organic farming and the Kanenhiio Farmers Market. Coming up on Monday, May 13th the first of three community meetings to discuss a proposed athletics field house in Generations Park will be held in the lobby at the Tribal Building at 6pm. The facility will house an indoor track, a soccer field and box lacrosse. The Massena Memorial Hospital Medical Office Building is now open. Having received approval from the FDA to operate, and phase one complete, the 20,400 sq. ft. building will be housing several providers – 16 when completed. On Saturday, May 4th, the Wholistic Health Department MCA along with the Akwesasne Area Management Board held an “Empowering Our Youth” workshop aimed at addressing bullying and suicide. Summary Recent testing of the Salmon River Central School District’s (School’s) water supply indicates that acetone (an organic compound associated with a previous spill at the School) is present in the treated water at levels below the New York State standard set for public drinking water supplies. On Wednesday May 8, at 6 pm at the Tri-District Elders Center, a community meeting was held to discuss the latest draft of the Mohawks of Akwesasne Community Settlement Trust document. It was decided through community consultation, that a Community Trust Fund was needed to handle past, present and future settlement monies that are coming into Akwesasne.
