    A group of Akwesasne community members announced this week that they have formed an election board and plan to hold an election for council positions later this month.   • Missing Six Nations girl found murdered

    Tashina General, a 21-year-old pregnant woman from the Six Nations reserve, was found buried in a shallow grave last week. She had reportedly been strangled to death. General, who was four months pregnant, went missing on Jan. 22. Friends and family scoured the Six Nations area for her, sending requests for assistance throughout Indian country. Police have charged 20-year-old Kent Owen Hill, or Squire-Hill, with second-degree murder. Authorities said Hill and General dated at one time....

    The body of a 37-year-old Akwesasne man was found in Quebec waters last week after having been missing since Christmas Eve. Alexander “Dooney” Vincent Lazore-Jocko was reported missing by family members on Dec. 24, 2007. At the time, police had very few clues but helicopters and crews searched the waters in and around Akwesasne.     A pipe that broke in the Akwesasne Cultural Center’s bathroom sent the staff on a downward spiral, but with Arrow White Construction on the job, things are looking up once again.
